Ankerberg Monthly Letter March 2013

Our current television series features two former Muslims and reveals, “Why Sharia Law Threatens Freedom and Basic Human Rights.” It is an eye opener. Since 1980 Muslim countries have been returning to a more radical form of Islam, the Islam Muhammad practiced in the seventh century. No moderate form of Islam is emerging anywhere. This is causing worldwide repercussions and endangering Christians.
Starting April 7, we will present a second series entitled, “Trapped Behind the Veil of Islam.” It details the oppressive rules and teachings approximately 800 million Islamic women face today in countries where Sharia Law has been instituted or is being allowed. These women are in great need. Christians must recognize what they are facing, and know how we can help them.
In this second series you will learn that it takes the witness of two Muslim women to equal that of one man. A Muslim man may marry a Muslim, a Christian, or a Jew and have up to four wives. A Muslim woman can marry only a Muslim man. The man can divorce his wife for any reason just by saying, “I divorce you” three times. When he divorces her, he gets the children.
In Egypt, 90% of women are circumcised before they reach adolescence because of Muhammad’s statements in the Hadith. In Pakistan, 90% of married Pakistani women are beaten on a regular basis, according to the Pakistan Institute of Science in 2002. Why? Because Muhammad taught in the Qur’an, “As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them” (4:34).
Islam is not a harmless, peaceful religion. It subjugates women to men and crushes personal freedoms. During the Arab Spring, we have witnessed country after country in the Middle East become full Islamic states.
During these history-changing events you have enabled us to broadcast into every one of the countries in the Middle East where Christian activity is restricted or prohibited. We know that Christians from Egypt to Iran are watching our program, God is working in their lives, and we are communicating with them.
This month I am going to ask for your help so we can continue broadcasting into more than 200 nations worldwide and into 100 million American homes. This last year our potential television viewing audience grew by 400 million people to 2.4 billion. That’s about one out of every three people on the planet who can now see the program.
Beginning March 10, we will air four special programs in which I will show you scenes from new programs we have taped. Further, as we approach Easter, I want to present the evidence for Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.
At the same time, I don’t want to turn off non-Christians who watch our program. Many unbelievers say, “Those television preachers, all they want is our money.” So, I am going to plainly say, “If you are not a Christian, you may completely disregard my appeal. You are my guest.” This way, I hope we can continue to have an evangelistic outreach that cares and ministers to non-Christians, presenting Christ freely to unbelievers. Do you agree with me?

How You Can Help

The first way I am asking you to help is to pray. Jesus said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.” Yet the Bible teaches that God answers prayer: “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). I need you to pray for God’s provision and blessing upon our ministry and ask others to join together with us.
Second, I think you realize that to pay for the airtime to broadcast our programs to so many people presents a tremendous financial challenge. Specifically, we must raise $600,000 by March 31 to pay our air time bills and remain on all of our stations, including yours. This seems like a huge amount, but I know that if everyone who watches the program here in America would send a gift, we can meet this need.
Now, I want you to know that a very generous Christian couple has sacrificially provided a matching gift fund to challenge all of our donors. It means that every gift you give will be matched or doubled, up to $150,000. If you give a gift of $25 it will become $50. A gift of $50 will become $100, $500 becomes $1,000, and so on.
To participate, you can write a check and send it back with the response card, call one of our operators anytime at 1-800-805-3030, or donate online at But remember, this matching gift will only be good through Easter Sunday, March 31.

The Ankerberg Worldview Collection

In addition, if you will give a gift of $35 or more this month, your gift will be matched, and as a thank you, you may choose any one series from our “Ankerberg Worldview Collection”—an enormous new package of our latest and most popular television series featuring 56 programs from 14 different series.
These programs include our recent series with Randy Alcorn called “What’s So Exciting about Heaven?” that investigates what the Bible teaches about the believer’s eternal home. Concerning prophecy, you will also find “The Financial Signs of the End Times” featuring New York Times best-selling author and pastor Dr. David Jeremiah. Regarding Easter, and Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, you can hear 21 of the world’s leading scholars in our series “The Search for Jesus.”
If you will give a gift of $100 or more, your gift will be matched and as a thank you, you may choose any 3 series from our Ankerberg Worldview Collection.
If you will give a gift of $500 or more this month, it will be doubled and we will send you all 14 series in the Ankerberg Worldview Collection.
Fourth, if God leads you to send or call with a gift of $1,000 or more, you may request the entire “Ankerberg Worldview Collection,” plus our beautiful sculpture of a “Soaring Eagle” featuring the Bible verse Isaiah 40:31: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles…”
Finally, I realize God may have blessed you with a tremendous level of financial resources at this time. Could it be that God has blessed you in order to be a blessing to our outreach? If so, your gift of $5,000, $10,000, or perhaps more will allow us to both double the impact of your gift as well as change lives for eternity.

Why Give Now?

First, I encourage you to give if God has used our programs in your own life. Lots of folks have watched for many years and have not given to help us continue. If this includes you, it would be a privilege to hear from you at this time.

Second, the ministry we offer is unique in reaching people for Christ. No other television program plays to so many people offering the amazing evidence for the Christian faith. To do so for 33 years has been a remarkable blessing from the Lord that has allowed us to see the lives of people changed from a variety of backgrounds—including those in other religions and cults, atheists, intellectuals, and many others.
Third, our critical airtime need is real. We must raise $600,000 by March 31. If we do not, we will have no choice but to drop some of our stations and networks.
Fourth, your gift will help bring the Gospel to those who have yet to hear. In the past year, we have picked up nearly 400 million more potential viewers to our television audience. Many of these viewers live in nations where few have heard the Gospel message. Do you desire to reach the unreached for Christ? This is the time.

Stories of God at Work

Remember, your gifts are having an eternal impact in the lives of people. A viewer just wrote, “Being in church together most of our lives, neither [my wife] nor I could remember ever being told how to know for sure that heaven was our final destination. …Thank you for what we have recently heard. Keep up the wonderful teaching.”
Another wrote, “Yours is a wonderful, much needed work. I don’t know of any other program even slightly similar to yours.” A Pastor in a closed country in the Middle East also wrote asking for prayer for God’s blessing in his difficult area.
During a program on Bible prophecy, a viewer ordered the DVDs to share with family members. One of his family members watched the series without his knowledge and prayed to become a Christian!
On Facebook, recent notes have come from Papua New Guinea, India, Pakistan, Australia, as well as several other nations. Each is watching the show as a result of your support.

You Can Make the Difference

Please know, there are no small gifts in God’s sight, or in ours. A lot is at stake in these next few days. We cannot do this ministry without you. As Paul wrote, “I thank my God every time I remember you” (Philippians 1:3). As we seek God’s provision during this time of need, I look forward to hearing from you.

For the sake of the Gospel,

Dr. John Ankerberg
