As parents, we care about our children’s education. We want to do whatever we can to prepare them for life ahead and to help them succeed. We want them to enjoy learning and the time they spend at school.
We also want to teach them how to think discerningly about the values and ideologies around them. We do not want them to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
As you send your children back to school, here are some passages from Scripture to guide your prayers for their education.
Instill in my children a desire to learn. Help them to grow in both knowledge and wisdom.
Proverbs 16:16 NIV
How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver!

so you will be wise the rest of your life.

guard it well, for it is your life.
Proverbs 1:7 NIV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:8-9 NIV
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
Proverbs 22:6 ESV

May you develop in them perseverance and maturity through the challenges they face.

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Help them to discern the values and ideologies around them, distinguishing between the things that do and do not align with Your heart.
1 John 4:1 NIV
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Colossians 2:8 NLT
Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.
Romans 12:2 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
