The Bible

The Bible is a collection of 66 books written over hundreds of years by many different authors. But every book of the Bible speaks about the same person – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And every book of the Bible tells us something God expects from the people who believe in Him.

There is so much we could say about the Bible, far more than we can put in one short article. In his book, Know What You Believe, Paul Little writes:

In the Bible,… God unfolds for us his true character. Through everyday human histories he tells us where we came from, what our ultimate destiny is and the purpose of our lives. He gives us practical instructions, heart-thumping encouragements, warnings and divine wisdom. All from our creator. Here God’s unrivaled power and integrity are also unveiled.

In the Bible, God tells us who He is. For example,

There is only one true God: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one,” (Deuteronomy 6:4 NIV).

God made everything: “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him,” (Colossians 1:16 NIV).

In the Bible God reveals where we can live after this life:

“My Father’s house [heaven] has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am,” (John 14:2-3, NIV).

And in the Bible God teaches us how we should live with other people:

“Honor your father and your mother,… You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony [lie—say things that are not true] against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house,…” (Exodus 20:12-17, NIV)

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy;…” (Hebrews 12:14, NIV)

Again, these are only a few of the many, many things we can learn from the Bible. If you would like to know more, please visit the links below:
