Does God Forget Sin?
Does God Forget Sin?
Mercifully, there is a great answer to this question in Jeremiah 31:34; in the latter part of this verse we read: “…declares the Lord, ‘for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more’.” That certainly is comforting to me!
Other passages of interest regarding sin:
Isaiah 44:22—”I have wiped out your transgressions like a thick cloud, and your sins like a heavy mist.”
Micah 7:19—”He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Someone has said that God then puts a “No Fishing” sign on top!
1 John 1:9—”If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Not only does He forgive all of our sins which we confess, but He buries them in the bottom of the sea, and He forgets them.
Obviously, this does not give us the right to keep sinning over and over again. As John says in 1 John 1:7—“If we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” The key is to “walk with” and “abide in” Jesus. See John 15:1-17.
