PAX TV HONORS WORTHWHILE ENTERTAINMENT ON MEMORIAL DAY

On Memorial Day, PAX TV, the seventh largest TV network in the United States, will join TV celebrity Steve Allen and the Christian Film and Television Commission in the battle to support worthwhile, redemptive movies.

PAX will air highlights from the 8th Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in a one-hour show to be broadcast 1 p.m. EST, May 29 on Memorial Day.

The Gala event, hosted by the Christian Film and Television Commission founded by Dr. Ted Baehr, honors family-friendly, worthwhile and redemptive movies and actors in movies and television who not only promote traditional family values but who also portray biblical religious values in a positive light.

During the show, Steve Allen and his wife, Jayne Meadows, who have long been active in campaigns to clean up TV and movie screens, will present the annual Grace Prize to the TV actor who gave the most inspirational performance during 1999. Actor Richard Thomas will present the Grace Prize for the most inspirational performance in movies.

The broadcast will also acknowledge the Best 1999 Film for Families and the Best 1999 Film for Mature Audiences. The show will also feature appearances by Smokey Robinson, Patricia Heaton and Doris Roberts of Everybody Loves Raymond, Hunter Tylo, Chuck Norris, and Richard Farnsworth. Tim Reid of Sister Sister and his wife Daphne Maxwell Reid of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will emcee the show.

“The MOVIEGUIDE® Gala commends the good in Hollywood entertainment and shows the entertainment industry that worthwhile entertainment generally does better at the box office,” notes Dr. Ted Baehr, chairman of the Commission and publisher of MOVIEGUIDE®. “This event,” he adds, “encourages people of faith and values within and without the entertainment industry (most of whom are part of the 135 to 165 million people who attend church every week – the largest audience in the United States!) by showing them that there is good entertainment and by honoring such entertainment.”

“The problem of the lack of morality in entertainment is so enormously serious,” Steve Allen said.

“Therefore,” Dr. Baehr notes, “this high-impact event helps high-level entertainment industry leaders understand the moral and spiritual dimensions of life, encourages them to make more moral and spiritual movies, demonstrates to them that spiritually redemptive movies increase business at the box office, and help them to know God and understand God better. These awards and prizes further the influence of moral and spiritual values within the entertainment industries and promote a spiritual, redemptive worldview by consistently establishing a major ‘once a year awards event’ that makes a public statement to the entertainment industry: ‘We recognize your efforts toward worthwhile entertainment and your concern about the moral fabric of society, and we applaud you.’”

By publicly commending moral and spiritual entertainment, the annual gala attracts the top executives and talent in the entertainment industry. By bringing together the top decision-makers to receive their prizes and awards, this annual event provides an effective forum for Dr. Baehr’s Report to Entertainment Industry which presents the economic benefits of adhering to worthwhile spiritual principles.

Although there are many ministries in Hollywood, The Christian Film and Television Commission is the only advocacy group representing Christians in the entertainment industry. It publishes MOVIEGUIDE®, the definitive family guide to movies and entertainment. MOVIEGUIDE® also regularly broadcasts several national and international TV and radio programs hosted by Dr. Baehr, author of The Media-Wise Family.
