Voices of the New Age – Part 2

What types of influence has New Age thinking had upon the way our governments make decisions and relate to one another? Is there a hidden agenda behind such things as population control legislation? Trade agreements?

Voices of the New Age: Thoughts on Government

[Author’s Note: This is the third article in a multipart series on New Age philosophies, taken directly from New Age authors and key figures. All italics and capitals in quotes are found in the originals.]

For many Christians, the New Age movement is a confusing and perplexing phenomena. One question of particular concern is simply, what does the New Age teach?

Answers to this question are as varied as the New Age movement itself; which embraces Tarot cards, astrology, divination, mysticism, channeling, UFO sub-cultures, earth-based worship, numerous rites and rituals, occultism and secret orders, symbols and talismans, eastern religions and spiritual pluralism, and so much more. For the Christian researcher, trying to grasp the full meaning and context of just one of these many manifestations is an enormous task. For the average person who “just wants to know what’s going on,” the New Age movement can be a quagmire of contradictory information, obscure concepts, and outright bizarreness.

Sometimes, when faced with this mountain of disturbing information, the best way to grasp what the New Age movement teaches is simply to listen to what New Age leaders and authors are saying. Then, when examined through a Biblical lens, these New Age “teachings” quickly reveal themselves for what they are; anti-Biblical spiritual approaches that can and do impact the world in which we live.

Consider the following statements,

Control population, limit one or two children per family…it is necessary to strive for a true internationalism, one that will take into consideration the resources of the world collectively…I fully realize that World Government is a controversial subject and it seems opposed to the traditional spirit of nationalism. However, the world is far too small now to continue to think of it in the future as but a checkerboard of sovereign states and individual ambitions. —Ralph M. Lewis [past Imperator of the Ancient and Mystical Order of the Rosae Crucis], “The Imperator Interviewed,” Rosicrucian Digest, April 1984.
The sharing and co-operation of all mankind, the redistribution of the produce of the world, will result in world government…At the head of several governments of the world and in the great world agencies, like United Nations agencies, and so on, there will be either a Master or at least a third degree initiate. —Benjamin Crème [Crème claims to be the vehicle through which an evolved spirit Master speaks], The Reappearance of the Christ and the Masters of Wisdom (Tara Press, 1980), p. 169.
The people of understanding and special ability rise to bring our New World Government, which is already potentially started in the United Nations; to bring our free marketplaces, which are already potentially started in the Common Market; and to bring our World Planning Commission, which is already started thru environmentalists and progressive city planners. —Allen Michael [who channeled a the messages of a spirit being who claimed to be the Ultimate Mind], GodUltimate Unlimited MindSpeaks (Starmast Publications, 1982), p. 286.
The revolution has begun. It started more than one hundred years ago, but now the pace is quickening. Throughout the world, men and women are joining in the uprising and are coming forward to be counted as part of a new race that will someday rule the universe. — John Randolph Price [co-founder of the Quartus Foundation], The Super Beings (The Quartus Foundation for Spiritual Research, 1981), p. 1.

For decades, former United Nations Assistant-Secretary General, Robert Muller, has advocated New Age philosophies for administrating human government. His books and his lectures have promoted a utopian vision of a United World where governments and peoples could partner in creating “the planet of God.”

The following statement was made to a group of public educators and school children at the Global Citizenship 2000 Youth Congress, which was held during the spring of 1997 in Vancouver, BC,

I have six fundamental ways of getting to a United World…I’m going to work with each of them…I am asking now that either the United Nations would be tremendously strengthened, or create a United States of the World. Or let us take the European Union now, as a model which is better than the United Nations, for a United World. Or let us take all the World Federalists together to create a World Federation. Or let us create regional continental units…the European Union, an American Union, which I’ve been pushing too – and this how you got the trade agreement between the US and Canada. And then we’ll take the five continents, and the five continents, if they’re united, will create a World Union. That’s another one…The latest and most important one is that we should organize this planet according to biology. All the bacteria, all the cells in your body, they are interconnected…This is a completely new concept of how the planet should be organized. We should do it by region instead of cutting things across. I would like to have a Pacific Community, an Atlantic Community…I would like to have a Pacific Community with all the countries around the Pacific. An Atlantic Community around the Atlantic. I would like to have an Arctic Community, an Antarctic Community, the desert countries…The great rivers of Amazon should be practically one region where the people should be [united with] nature. So you have to work on all this. You have a fantastic future. —Robert Muller, speaking at the Global Citizenship 2000 Youth Congress, April 5, 1997. Audio tapes of the event are in the author’s possession.

In reading his book, New Genesis: Shaping a Global Spirituality, Muller advocates global unification centered on New Age concepts. He stating that, “Someday our planet will be a world spiritual democracy.” (p. 10). Muller elaborated on this idea further in the book,

Little by little, a planetary prayer book is thus being composed by an increasingly united humanity seeking its oneness…Once again, but this time on a universal scale, humankind is seeking no less than its reunion with the “divine,” its transcendence into ever higher forms of life. Hindus call our earth Brahma, or God, for they rightly see no difference between our earth and the divine. This ancient simple truth is slowly dawning upon humanity. Its full flowering will be the real, great new story of humanity, as we are about to enter our cosmic age and to become what we were always meant to be; the planet of God. —p. 49.

There is no doubt that the New Age Movement has made inroads within human government structures. Some individuals, like Robert Muller, have deeply impacted international political systems (he was personally involved in creating eleven of the UN’s specialized agencies), others have had influence at more local levels.

For the Christian, we need to uphold our governments in prayer, recognizing a need for wisdom on the part of our leaders, especially as our “human management” institutions are being manipulated by certain spiritual/political agendas. We also need to have a proper perspective on how God views un-godly governments. Psalm 2 is a good example of how God looks upon peoples and political institutions that have chosen to stand against the Most High,

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Not only does Psalm 2 give us a glimpse of God’s perspective on governments who take a contrary position, it gives guidance and encouragement,

Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling…Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
