Where Can We Learn About God?
R.L. Wilson

Getting to know God is very important. The Bible says He made us and that He has plans for us. But someone may ask, “If we can’t see God, how can we learn anything about Him?”

If someone wants to know about God, He has given us several ways we can find out about Him.

First, we can learn about God from nature. Psalm 19:1-3 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.” When you see the stars, or flowers, or animals, or people, when you taste food, all those are things that God has made.

Second, we can learn about God from what people wrote about Him in the Bible. The prophets in the Old Testament and the Disciples in the New Testament told us many things about what God is like, and what He wants for His people. These things were written down for us so that we can read them, even hundreds or thousands of years later, and hear as if from God Himself.

Third, God has told us many things about Himself through His Son Jesus—who is God Himself! Jesus told His Disciples “‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him…. Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.’” (John 14:6-9)

Sadly, many people may try to tell us things about God that simply are not true. However, by comparing what those people say to what we read in the Bible, what we see in nature all around us, and what we have learned about Jesus, we can learn to tell the truth about God from the lies.
