What Did the Writers Think About the Bible?

For Christians, those who are followers of Jesus, the Bible is more than just a book. For them, the Bible is the word of God. In the Bible God tells us many things about Himself and what His plans are for the world, for His people, and for the future.

God chose very ordinary people to write the Bible, and some of those people wrote down what they thought about it. For example:

Ezekiel said, “It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth” (Ezekiel 3:3)

Job said, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12)

Jeremiah said, “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight” (Jeremiah 15:16)

David said, “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward” (Psalm 19:7-11)

In another place a psalmist writes, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path,” and “All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.” (Psalm 119:105, 160)

The writer of Hebrews tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Heb 4:12)

Paul said, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16)

As you can see, the Bible is very important for those who love God. In it we learn what God is like. In the Bible God has given us instructions on how to live as He wants us to live.

The apostle Paul tells us, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Thank you, God, for giving us Your words in the Bible!
