Psalm 139 – A Prayer of Thanksgiving
A look at Psalm 139 – A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Dear Omniscient Father, you know everything about me. Even the things I might want to keep hidden from you. You dig down into every nook and cranny of my life, my thoughts, my actions, my feelings. You know them all, yet you still love me. You still hem me in, keeping your hand on me so I know I am safe. Safe in your loving care. “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me!”
Dear Omnipresent Father, there is no place I can go where you are not there with me. That might frighten me at times, because sometimes I am all too aware of how very frail and sinful I am. Sometimes the light of your presence causes me pain as you expose my thoughts, words and deeds that do not please you. Still, your presence also brings me comfort. And I know that wherever I go, “your hand will guide me, and your right hand will hold me close.”
Dear Omnipotent Father, you have known me since before I was born, in fact, before my parents even thought about me. I am yours. I am the work of your hands. I owe my life to you. I am “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Even when I worry about what may be ahead for me, I know that “all the days ordained for me were written in your book.” My future is in your hands, and that comforts me. “How precious to me are your thoughts, God!”
Dear Sovereign Father, sometimes I wonder why there is so much evil in this world. Why do the wicked seem to get away with so much? Why do you let them get away with rebelling against you? But, Father, I look at my own heart and realize that I am in no position to judge them. So I ask that you “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
