How Do Muslims View Jesus Christ?

how-do-muslims-view-jesus-christ

Muslims claim that they believe in the true Jesus Christ. Muslims praise Jesus as a prophet of God, as sinless, as “the Messiah,” as “illustrious in this world and the next,” as “the Word of Allah” and as “the Spirit of God.” (e.g. Sura 3:45) Muslims cite their Bible, the Koran, in confirmation of their belief in Jesus: ‘And we gave Jesus, Son of Mary, the clear signs, and confirmed Him with the Holy Spirit.”[1]

But whatever Islam claims, it does not believe in the biblical Jesus.

First, it asserts that Jesus was only one of God’ ‘s endless prophets or messengers, and not God’s only begotten Son. Muslims adamantly reject the idea that Jesus is the Son of God. The Koran repeatedly emphasizes that Jesus Christ is not the literal Son of God:

“They say, ‘God has taken to Him a son’… Say: ‘Those who forge against God falsehood shall not prosper.’ “[2]
“Praise belongs to God [Allah], who has not taken to Him a son….”[3]
“… Warn those who say, ‘God has taken to Himself a son’”… a monstrous word it is, issuing out of their mouths; they say nothing but a lie.”[4]
“But who does greater evil than he who forges against God a lie?”[5]
“They are unbelievers who say, ‘God is the Messiah, Mary’s Son.’”[6]

Thus the Koran emphatically denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God—a teaching that Jesus Himself just as emphatically affirmed (John 3:16,18; 10:36-38). In conclusion, the Christian view of Jesus Christ as God’s literal Son is blasphemy to the Muslim.

Second, Muslims deny that Christ was God incarnate. Any Muslim who believes that Christ is God has committed “the one unforgivable sin”[7] called shirk—a sin that will send him to hell. Thus the Koran emphasizes that Jesus was only a man: “The Messiah, Jesus Son of Mary, was only the Messenger of God….” [8] Sura 43:59 asserts: “Jesus was no more than a mortal whom [Allah] favored and made an example to the Israelites.” [9]

But even though Jesus Himself claimed on many different occasions that He is God, the Koran has Jesus denying His own deity. When Allah himself supposedly asked Jesus if He was God, Jesus replied in the Koran, “It is not mine to say what I have no right to.” [10] In fact, even as a baby, Jesus allegedly claimed He was only a servant of Allah. According to Sura 19:20,34, Jesus praised his birth and then said, “I am the servant of Allah.” And Allah teaches, “It is not for God to take a son unto Him.”[11]

Third, Muslims do not believe that Jesus was crucified and died on the cross.

Fourth, Islam teaches that Muhammad was a superior prophet to Jesus because he brought God’s final revelations to man. Badru D. Kateregga, a former lecturer and head of the Islamic studies and comparative religion at Kenyatta University College, University of Nairobi, Kenya, exemplifies the common Muslim view of Jesus as an inferior prophet to Muhammad.

The truth that all the previous prophets have proclaimed to humanity was perfected by Prophet Muhammad…. The Qur’an, which is Allah’s final guidance to mankind, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad… the seal of all prophets, 600 years after the Prophet Isa (Jesus)… Muhammad… is the one prophet who fulfilled Allah’s mission during his lifetime.
Muslims believe in and respect all the prophets of God who preceded Muhammad…. They all brought a uniform message—Islam—from Allah. [But] Muhammad is the last in seal of prophethood. Through him, Islam was completed and perfected. As he brought the last and latest guidance for all mankind, it is he alone to whom Muslims turn for guidance.[12]

Thus “Muhammad… is the last prophet and messenger of Allah. His mission was for the whole world and for all times.”[13] In other words, Muslims must not turn to Jesus for spiritual guidance—only to Muhammad.

But Muslims are wrong. Jesus is far more than God’s mere messenger. Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son (John 3:16-18). Further, He is the Second Person of the Trinity, God incarnate—God Himself (John 1:1,14; 5:18). Jesus claimed to be both “the Lord” and “God”

“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am’, (John 13:13). ‘Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father [God]” (John 14:9). “I and the Father [God] are one” (John 10:30).

When Muslims deny that Christ was crucified on the cross—and that God substituted someone else in His place—they deny the clearest teaching of the New Testament. Even Jesus prophesied—repeatedly—that He had to go to the cross and that this was God’s direct will for Him (Matthew 16:21; Luke 18:31-33; John 12:27). Innumerable eyewitnesses, both Jesus’ friends and enemies, saw Jesus die on the cross, and many of His apostles and friends were eyewitnesses to His resurrection from the dead (John 19:23-27,31-35).

In conclusion, both the Koran and the Muslim religion are in serious error concerning their teachings on the most important man of history, Jesus Christ. Islam claims that it honors and reverences Jesus even though it rejects what the Bible teaches about Him. It denies His divine nature when it teaches that He was only a servant of God, a mere man. It denies His mission when it teaches that Jesus never died on the cross. It denies Jesus’ own teaching concerning the reason He came into the world: “to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).

No one can deny that Muslims reject the biblical Jesus. Yet it was Jesus Himself who warned all men, “…if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins” (John 8:24).

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Muslims hate Jesus like Allah hates a man calling himself the King of Kings. Anyone with half a brain will know that Allah is speaking about Jesus. Allah is Satan hating Jesus. Muslims are lying through their teeth saying they love Jesus.

    – Jesus is a sign of God’s power
Jesus is a sign of God’s power, where God showed people that He could create Jesus without a father, as He created Adam without any parents. Similarly, just as God created Adam with no father or mother, Jesus’ birth was from mother with no father. All that is needed for God for something to happen is to say “Be” and it is; for God is capable of all things. Adam was created when God said, “Be,” and he to be without a father or a mother. And so was Jesus created by the Word of God. If the unusual birth of Jesus makes him divine, then Adam deserves more of that divinity because Jesus at least had one parent, while Adam had none. As Adam is not divine, so is Jesus not divine, but both are humble servants of God.

Muhammad was a prophet, Jesus was the son of God, that’s the difference. Islam is incompatible with our Westerners’ Judea / Christian civilization. We can’t very well move to the Middle East and impose our believes on Muslims.

      • janis karatchaly on July 13, 2017 at 5:22 am

Christianity is a middle eastern religion.Judeo-Christian civilization is a product of middle east.Just because somebody from West follows it, doesn’t make it a western religion.Jesus and Mary were from the middle east.Abraham, Isaac, and Ishmael were from the middle east.John the Baptist was from the middle east.By your logic, you are following a middle eastern religion. If Jesus was the son of God because he had only mum, how would you describe Adam?Adam didn’t have mom or dad.So his birth was truly miraculous. If you read Quran,Bible(especially old testament} and Torah anyone whose heart is not blind can understand it’s teachings are the same.

    • JONATHAN on July 17, 2017 at 5:12 pm

      Philippians 2:5-11 KJV
[5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

How to Get to Heaven According to Jesus son of Mary ?
Many people in the Gospel asked that very same question directly to Jesus and let’s see what the reply was :
“And behold, one came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?”
“And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”
    Matthew 19:16-17
Here according to Jesus, to enter Heaven, we follow the commandments.
A question to the Christians is: why would Jesus mislead this man if the ‘only way to heaven was through the blood of Jesus’?
Was Jesus misleading this man by teaching that Works will open the Gates of Heaven?
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
    Matthew 5:10
Here Jesus says that Martyrs will go to Heaven, those who die and suffer for a good cause will go to Heaven. Is Jesus again being misleading since all Christians claim that the one and only way to Heaven is through the blood of Jesus as the church teaches.
Here again a Lawyer asked the Important Question, How to enter Heaven; And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jesus said “What is written in the law? How do you read?”
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
And he said to him, “You have answered right; do this, and you will live.” Luke 10:25-28
The lawyer asked the teacher Jesus how to have eternal life and Jesus replied “Read”… “The Law”….. “Obey the Law” believe in God and love your neighbor.
Why in front of all these people would Jesus not tell them the so-called only way that the Christians of today are saying ‘no way to heaven except through the blood of Jesus’, why would Jesus contradict today’s Christians?
Are Christians freed from the Law as the modern Christians teach?
“Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:19
Why would Jesus Teach this if he came so that his blood can relax the Law, why is it when he was on earth, he Taught Not to Relax the Law? And Those who follow the Laws will be the Highest in Heaven.
“Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
Salvation according to some Christians comes from taking Jesus as your god and accepting the claimed blood sacrifice, while on the Other Hand, Jesus seems to be saying the Opposite. Why is that? Aren’t Christians supposed to follow the Teachings of Jesus, As far as Salvation is concerned, Muslims are following the Teachings of Jesus, why haven’t the Christians started yet ?
“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother.” (Mark 3:35) If Jesus is god, why would he claim that who ever follows the Commandments would be the brother or mother of god ? Does god have a mother of brother?
“Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21
Giving to directly to the Poor, one of the 5 Pillars of Islam, Jesus is Teaching Piety to Enter Heaven.
“Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24
This Verse was very revealing to me, Jesus is repeatedly saying, a rich man will not enter Heaven.
Some Christians of today claim that Jesus died for all sins, yet Jesus repeatedly taught that greed will prevent you from entering Heaven. What about those Christians who are rich? Aren’t they saved according to the 10% collecting church?
Now according to the church and Christians of modern day, ‘who ever believes in the blood of Jesus and accepts Jesus as god, then that is the only way that person is saved, not through works.
    Now let’s see if Jesus again contradicts the church;
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24
It is Clear that according to Jesus the way to Heaven is to believe in God (who Sent Jesus see John ) and to hear (follow) the words of Jesus.
Does Jesus want us to believe in his blood Or to believe that he is from God?
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. John 6:35
Therefore Jesus is Telling them that if they believe in him (While he was Alive) that they will receive paradise.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.” John 14:12
Truly, Honestly, I give you my Word Jesus Says: the Human who does Works as I do (Jesus followed the Laws of Moses) then that human will follow me to the Father (God).
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
What does a light do? it guides, directs, it shows you the Right Path, A light does not symbolize one to be sacrificed, but instead, one to Guide.
All Muslims believe in Jesus :
” There is not one of the People of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them ”
    The Qur’an 4:159
Therefore I am Puzzled as to why Jesus would name off all these specific Teachings and Keys to enter Heaven except the one that the Christians teach (his blood).
According to Jesus, Muslims are blessed and will be in Heaven because they believe God sent Jesus and they follow works, I pray that Christians will at least follow the words of Jesus and may “his teachings” lead them to Truth.
” But those among them who are well-grounded in knowledge, and the believers, believe in what hath been revealed to thee and what was revealed before thee: And (especially) those who establish regular prayer and practise regular charity and believe in Allah and in the Last Day: To them shall We soon give a great reward.”
    [ The Qur’an 4:162 ]
This is not to say that we can work our way into Heaven which is a common misunderstanding of Christians towards Islam.
This is to clarify that we can not Faith our way directly into Heaven which is a common misunderstanding of Christians towards Christianity.
    It is said well by Jesus’s younger brother and disciple (James) who said;
    “Faith without works is Dead” {Jas 2:26}
And then the Truth is confirmed in the Holy Qur’an:
“..But the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile wandering) in (mazes of) error! ”
    [ The Qur’an 40:50 ]
“For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without Faith is in vain.”
    [ The Qur’an 13:14 ]

God’s creation can never be a God. God made and created Adam in the book of geneses. He is a masterpeice of mankind a creation and can never be a God. While Jesus is the son of God and He was with God even before the creation. In john 1:1 John 1:1 KJVS
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In john 1:14 John 1:14 KJVS
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Can he be a Prophet Of God? What did he says himself he is?

  23. Ahmad on October 31, 2017 at 2:04 am

    The Mighty God didn’t make any covenant to preserve the Bible from distortion;
Revelation 22:18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
Revelation 22:19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

Revelation 22:9 But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”

Psalm 89:34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.

Deuteronomy 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.

Deuteronomy 12:32 “Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.

Deuteronomy 4:5 “See, I have taught you statutes and judgments just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do thus in the land where you are entering to possess it.

Deuteronomy 4:14 “The LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might perform them in the land where you are going over to possess it.

Deuteronomy 4:40 “So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time.”

Proverbs 30:6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

Dr Weldon, I am confused…in your article you say that Muslims do not believe that Jesus is the “literal son of God”, but neither do Christians.
Jesus is not God’s Son in the sense of a human father and a son. God did not get married and have a son. God did not mate with Mary and, together with her, produce a son. The expression “son of” does not always refer to the child of a man and a woman. Jesus called two of His disciples sons of thunder. And He told some self-righteous Jews that their father was the devil. Jesus didn’t mean that thunder or the devil had slept with women. Likewise, devout Jews of Jesus’ day sometimes called God their “father,” but they never dreamed that implied God had slept with their mother. Some languages even today use the expression “son of” to describe a person’s character.
No informed Christian believes that God slept with Mary, and clearly, the Bible does not teach it. It should never be made a point of debate, and attempts to do so are either foolish or ill-intended.

The Quran discusses Mary’s miraculous conception as well.

“Relate In The Book (The Story Of) Mary, When She Withdrew From Her Family To A Place In The East. She Placed A Screen (To Screen Herself) From Them; Then We Sent Her Our Angel, And He Appeared Before Her As A Man In All Respects.” (Quran 19:16-17).

After Seeing The Angel, She Said: “I Seek Refuge From You To (God) Most Gracious: (Come Not Near) If You Do Fear God.” (Quran 19:18). The Angel Gabriel Responded: “Nay, I Am Only A Messenger From Your Lord, (To Announce) To You The Gift Of A Righteous Son.” (Quran 19:19). Her next response is expected. She asked: “How Shall I Have A Son, Seeing That No Man Has Touched Me, And I Am Not Unchaste?” (Quran 19:20).

The Angel Gabriel said: “SO (IT WILL BE): THY LORD SAITH, ‘THAT IS EASY FOR ME: AND (WE WISH) TO APPOINT HIM AS A SIGN UNTO MEN AND A MERCY FROM US.’ IT IS A MATTER (SO) DECREED.” (Quran 19:21).

    MARY THEN BECOMES PREGNANT.
Jesus is a Prophet and a Messenger. A Messenger is a Prophet who is given revelation from God. Whereas the Torah was revealed to Moses, the Gospel was revealed to Jesus. Messengers are a mercy, guidance, and sign from God.

“And God Will Teach Him (Jesus) The Book And Wisdom, The Torah And The Gospel, And (Appoint Him) As A Messenger To The Children Of Israel, (with this message):

‘I Have Come To You, With A Sign From Your Lord, In That I Make For You Out Of Clay, As It Were, The Figure Of A Bird, And Breathe Into It, And It Becomes A Bird By God’s Leave. And I Heal Those Born Blind, And The Lepers, And I Bring The Dead Into Life, By God’s Leave; And I Declare To You What You Eat, And What You Store In Your Houses. Surely Therein Is A Sign For You If You Did Believe. (I Have Come To You) To Attest The Torah Which Was Before Me. And To Make Lawful To You Part Of What Was (Before) Forbidden To You. I Have Come To You With A Sign From Your Lord. So Fear God, And Obey Me. It Is God Who Is My Lord And Your Lord; Then Worship Him. This Is A Way That Is Straight.'” (Quran 3:48-51).

After Conceiving Jesus, Mary went away with the baby to a distant place (Quran 19:22).

“And The Pains Of Childbirth Drove Her To The Trunk Of A Palm-Tree. She Cried (In Her Anguish): ‘Ah! Would That I Had Died Before This!
Would That I Had Been A Thing Forgotten!'” (Quran 19:23).

    “BUT (A VOICE) CRIED TO HER FROM BENEATH THE (PALM-TREE): ‘GRIEVE NOT! FOR YOUR LORD HAS PROVIDED A RIVULET BENEATH YOU;
AND SHAKE TOWARDS THYSELF THE TRUNK OF THE PALM-TREE: IT WILL LET FALL FRESH RIPE DATES UPON THEE. SO EAT AND DRINK AND COOL (THINE) EYE. AND IF YOU DO SEE ANY MAN, SAY, ‘I HAVE VOWED A FAST TO (GOD) MOST GRACIOUS, AND THIS DAY WILL I ENTER INTO NO TALK WITH ANY HUMAN BEING.'” (Quran 19:24-26).

Joseph, the magi, and manger are not mentioned in the Quran.
God was Mary’s only Provider. Muslims do not accept the virgin birth of Jesus as evidence of JESUS’S DIVINITY. “The similitude of Jesus before God is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: ‘Be.’ And he was.” (Quran 3:59).

Adam’s Creation was even more Miraculous because he was born WITHOUT FATHER AND MOTHER. When she brings the baby to her people, The amazement of the people knew no bounds. In any case they were prepared to think the worst of Mary, as she had disappeared from her people for some time. But now she comes, shamelessly PARADING A BABY IN HER ARMS! How she had disgraced the HOUSE OF Aaron, the fountain of priesthood!

They said SISTER OF AARON: Mary is reminded of her lineage and the outstanding morals of her father and mother. How, they said, she had fallen, and disgraced the name of her ancestors!
In other word they are saying that she has COMMITED ADULTERY The Jews of that time knew their laws well .
The LAWS OF MOSES (A S) in the tawrat says that The Price For Adultery Is STONING TO DEATH.
    “What Could Mary Do?
How could She Defend Herself With A Baby In Her Arm ?
    How could she explain?
Would they, in their censorious mood accept her explanation?
All She Could Do Was To Point To The Child, who, SHE KNEW WAS NO ORDINARY CHILD.
The People Said How Can We Talk To A Baby?
And by Allah’s leave the Child Came To Her Mother’s Rescue.
By A Miracle He Spoke, He Defended His Mother, And Preached To An Unbelieving Audience.”

“O Mary! Truly A Strange Thing Has Thou Brought! O Sister Of Aaron! Your Father Was Not A Man Of Evil, Nor Your Mother A Woman Unchaste!” (Quran 19:27-8). Mary Then Points To The Baby. They Said: “How Can We Talk To One Who Is A Child In The Cradle?” (Quran 19:29).

THEN A MIRACLE OCCURS THAT IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE. In Defense Of His Mother, Jesus said: “I Am Indeed A Servant Of God. He Has Given Me Revelation And Made Me A Prophet; And He Has Made Me Blessed Wheresoever I Be, And Hath Enjoined On Me Prayer And Charity As Long As I Live; (He Has Made Me) Kind To My Mother, And Not Overbearing Or Unblest; So Peace Is On Me The Day I Was Born, The Day That I Die, And The Day That I Shall Be Raised Up To Life (Again)!” (Quran 19:30-33).

Thus Jesus (pbuh) Defended His Mother From The Grave Slander and innuendoes of her enemies. This was the very first miracle attributed to Jesus in the Holy Quran. And I am sure you can see the importance of this miracle for If It Was Not For That Miracle Mary Would Have Been Stoned To Death.
But Allah is Great Allah Always Comes To The Rescue Of His Servants.

Jesus Christ was born miraculously by the command of God, the same command that had brought Adam into being with neither a father nor a mother. also Jesus is a sign of God’s power, where God showed people that He could create Jesus without a father, as He created Adam without any parents. As Adam is not divine, so is Jesus not divine, but both are humble servants of God :

    | Verily, Jesus is as Adam in the sight of God. He created him of dust: He then said to him, “Be” — and he was |

Did you actually as a so called “Dr.” claim that all of Islam is in plain error? God The Exalted and Glorified sent the Torah , Injeel , and His final revaluation, The Holy Quran . Out of all the three scriptures only one has remained exactly as it was sent, the Quran. I don’t need science to prove this to you, I can simply use common sense. There are hundreds of churches with hundreds of different “Bibles” with every pastor fighting and filling his own ideology into the book, now tell me, if I threw every copy of all 3 scriptures away and there was none left in the face of the Earth, who could remember and re-write the Bible? There would be endless debate and arguing. The Quran however has been the same since Jibreel sent it down to The Prophet Muhammad ( Blessings and Peace be upon him ) and everyday, five times a day, we as Muslims read our prayers starting of with the Fatiha. Children under the age of 5 have memorized the entire Holy Quran. The Word of God Almighty should not be forgotten just because the scripture has been lost, yet The Almighty Words should be recited and remembered in the heart and soul.

“They say, ‘God has taken to Him a son’ Well allah says he exalted Mary (mother of Jesus) above all women, and he breathed some of his spirit into her. And then she had Jesus. Even in the Manhatten lower court they would find for Mary in a paternity suit.
