Messages from the Beyond: Preaching the Gospel of Self-Godhood

One aspect of the New Age movement that reveals it’s “heart and soul” is in the area of “communications”. That is, channeled messages from the beyond that teach, guide and direct the individuals and groups that adhere to them. At the heart of these channeled messages we find the same lies the Serpent used to snare Eve in the Garden!

Messages from the Beyond: Preaching the Gospel of Self-Godhood

The New Age Movement is an eclectic blend of mystical experiences, Eastern philosophies and religions, occult practices, and mind-bending encounters. It can be likened to an explorers trek into a psychic and spiritual wilderness; an expedition which introduces the spiritual adventurer to a host of various elements. From crystal pyramids to UFO cults, from visitations by “angels of light” to unexplainable psychic phenomenon, from secret books of esoteric knowledge to the ancient continent of Atlantis and other lost kingdoms of occult lore—the New Age Movement is rife with strange and exotic mystical quests.

One aspect of the New Age Movement that reveals its “heart and soul” is in the area of “communications.” That is, channeled messages from the beyond that teach, guide, and direct the individuals and groups that adhere to them.

The Donning International Encyclopedic Psychic Dictionary defines “channel” and “channeling” as,

CHANNEL—a person who allows his body and mind to be used as a mechanism for the etheric world intelligences to bring psychic information or healing energy to others; comes through in physical and mental psychic skills, while the person is in a deep or semi-trance state; used in inspirational speaking, writing, psychic surgery, etc.
CHANNELING—to allow an etheric world intelligence to enter one’s mind and impress thoughts upon the consciousness to be spoken aloud, using one’s own voice; medium’s body is relaxed and mind is uncluttered and free of former concepts and opinions; awareness is heightened and medium senses another presence operating through him or her but does not sense the significance of the material until afterward; the knowledge brought through is beyond normal comprehension of the medium and must be studied to be understood; currently becoming very popular (Encyclopedic Psychic Dictionary, p. 105).

Did you catch all that? In a nutshell, “channeling” is allowing your mind and body to be possessed and used by an outside spiritual entity in order to impart special words of knowledge. But who are these entities, and what is their message?

As diverse as the New Age Movement is, these “etheric” beings likewise exemplify a wide range of personas. Sometimes these unseen messengers present themselves as extraterrestrial life forms—alien beings from a distant galaxy or solar system. Angels too are at times credited to this role of an inter-dimensional message bearer, as are Devas, god-like beings which in the Sanskrit tradition are part of a hierarchical order of advanced spiritual super-beings.

Ken Carey, author of The Starseed Transmissions—a compilation of messages he claims to have channeled in the late 1970s—writes this about the entities who worked through him,

At times I considered these extraterrestrial, at other times, angelic. Occasionally, I thought of the entities as informational cells within a Galactic organism of some sort. Toward the end of the transmissions, other, more mythical perspectives emerge, about which I will make no comment here (The Starseed Transmissions, p. 2).

New Age and esoteric teachers also claim that these message-bearers are “Guided Masters.” Supposedly highly evolved humans, these entities have been called by various names, including Enlightened Ones, Hierarchy of Initiates, Planetary Hierarchy, Custodians of the Plan, Spirit Guides, and the Ascended Masters of Wisdom. Popular guided masters in the New Age Movement includes the Master Jesus the Christ, Maitreya the Christ, and Djwhal Khul (also spelt Djwal Kul). [Keep in mind, in esoteric doctrine Jesus Christ was only a man who evolved into a state of god-hood, an evolved human super-being. This is not the Jesus of the Bible.]

So what are these “Cosmic Messengers” saying?

Almost without exception, these channeled messages speak of self-godhood, human perfectibility, planetary oneness, and a coming time when all human energy collectively emerges in a “Christ-like” state of cosmic consciousness. Moreover, these ethereal entities are communicating these messages in order to aid humanity in this ultimate unfolding.

One channeled message through an “extraterrestrial visitor” explained this larger goal; “We are aware of probabilities for Earth…as a member of the universal races, it is our responsibility and also our gift to assist planets in their evolutionary steps” (Lyssa Royal and Keith Priest, Visitors from Within, p. 48).

Maitreya the Christ, an Ascended Master made famous through the public relations work of author and lecturer Benjamin Crème, revealed this lofty purpose in a September 15th, 1977 message,

The vanguard of My Masters of Wisdom are now among you. Soon you will know Them. Help Them in Their work. Know, too, that They are building the New Age, through you. Let Them lead and guide, show you the way; and in doing this you will have served your brothers and sisters well (Messages from Maitreya the Christ, vol. 1, p. 13).

And in building this New Age, the core principle as defined by these messengers is the discovery of the God-divinity within you. The being(s) who spoke to Ken Carey communicated this simply; “You are the Presence of God. God is present on Earth because of you” (The Starseed Transmissions, p. 51). One message from an Ascended Master given to Elizabeth Clare Prophet on July 5, 1975, boldly proclaimed, “I AM Alpha! I AM Omega! When you know that you are Alpha, that you are Omega, then—and only then—will you find yourself in the white-fire core of the Great Central Sun. Children of the One: Forge your God-identity!” (The Great White Brotherhood in the Culture, History and Religion of America, p. 237).

All of this smacks of the Great Lie given to Eve as found in the book of Genesis. Paraphrasing, the Lie basically said, “God is hiding the truth from you, disobey Him and you too will become as God.”

In his letter to the churches of Galatia, the apostle Paul warned against heading doctrines given by deceiving angels. “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8). Driving home the seriousness of the matter, Paul repeats this warning once again in the following verse; “if anyone preaches any other gospel to you…let him be accursed.”

The bottom line is that channeled messages proclaiming self-deification is not the gospel as presented by the true Jesus Christ. Instead of man actually being a God-in-process, Jesus Christ taught that we are all sinners who have fallen short of God’s standards, and that we are helpless in this state. Moreover, man must swallow his pride and recognize that he is lost—that he is not a god in the making but an individual steeped in sin and pride—and that Jesus Christ alone is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).

The difference between the message of Jesus Christ as presented in the Bible verses the “Jesus-entities” of New Age is monumental; one proclaims life through admitting who we really are—sinners, the other repeats a lie that’s many millennium old—that you can seize God’s throne on your own.

One message leads to life, the other brings a curse (Galatians 1:8-9).
