One Person: Four Portraits An Easter Series
This year as we celebrate Easter, our team of writers will focus our articles on the pictures of Jesus found in each of the four Gospels. Dr. John Stott wrote,
“In the Gospels—each with its own viewpoint,…—we find the story of [Jesus’] birth, life, death and resurrection, together with a sample of what he said and what he did. These ‘memories of the apostles,’ as they used to be called in the early church, came rightly to be known as ‘Gospels,’ for each evangelist tells his story as ‘gospel’ or good news of Christ and his salvation.” (Dr. John R.W. Stott, Understanding the Bible (Zondervan. Kindle Edition), p. 25.
Pastor Carey Dean explains,
“God gave the all-important eyewitness testimony of His Son’s life not as one portrait but as four magnifying ones. Each has its ordained view, voice, and audience. I think the Easter season would be enhanced by focusing on the Christ portraits developed in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. As we stand before each perspective of the same Gospel Story, I believe Christ is more fully exalted, and we are more fully blessed.”
We pray that you will be blessed as we each reflect on one of these four Portraits of our Savior during this season when we remember His great sacrifice on our behalf.
