Struggling for God

In Jude 3, we are told believers are to “contend for the faith.” What does this mean? To “contend” indicates a struggle. Jude wrote to share the gospel, but also felt the need to address false ideas that had spread among his readers. We are likewise called to both share God’s truth—and oppose false ideas that stand against truth. In one sense, God’s truth is strong enough to stand on its own. Yet the Lord has commanded us to contend with Him in proclaiming and living it out. Instead of being complacent at the sinful world around us, we are compelled to stand and do something to help show God’s love, leading others to salvation in Christ.
