Why Was Jesus Born of a Virgin?

What You’ll Learn:

The Gospels teach Jesus was born to Mary while she was still a virgin. Why was this important? First, this took place to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Second, Jesus was born of a virgin to show He is both fully human and fully divine. He was born of a woman, yet came from above. The virgin birth also highlights the uniqueness of Jesus. No other virgin birth has taken place. God alone could perform this miracle, revealing His plan in advance, entering the world supernaturally, and offering much evidence throughout His life to show He is the Son of God.
