The Gospels teach Jesus was born to Mary while she was still a virgin. Why was this important? First, this took place to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Second, Jesus was born of a virgin to show He is both fully human and fully divine. He was born of a woman, yet came from above. The virgin birth also highlights the uniqueness of Jesus. No other virgin birth has taken place.
