In Everything Give Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18 is a challenge to all of us. How do we give thanks “in everything”? Some situations just don’t seem to lend themselves to a thankful spirit. Still, if God has told us to do it, He must have provided us something for which to be thankful. Right? 

So my challenge to you this Thanksgiving is to keep your eyes open to see those blessings that are ours. Sometimes we can be thankful because of who (or what) God is. Sometimes we can focus on something He has done for us. Either way, here are some verses to get you thinking and praising:

• Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever. —1 Chronicles 16:34
• The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. —Psalm 28:7
• Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is a great God, the great King above all gods. —Psalm 95:2-3
• Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. —Psalm 106:1
• Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. —Romans 5:1
• Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. —Colossians 3:15
• And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. —Colossians 3:17
• For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. —Ephesians 2:8
• Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. —James 1:17
• For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. —John 3:16
• Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. —Philippians 4:6
