Protection

protection (1)

We live in a crazy world broken by sin. We are surrounded with daily, nearly hourly, reminders of how many things lie outside of our control. In this, it is easy for anxiety to overtake our hearts, yet our God, who created and sustains everything, invites us to bring our concerns to Him. This includes sending our children back to school, to a place and people outside of our control. Below are some Bible verses about protection to meditate on and pray through as you bring your children’s safety before God.

When we are weighed down with worry and fear, He urges us to come and rest under the shadow of His protective wings.

Father, thank you for the all the ways you watch over my family and me. I ask that you keep my children from harm today.

Psalm 121:3-8 NIV

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Protect them from the hands and schemes of the wicked.

Psalm 140:4 NIV

Keep me safe, Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
    protect me from the violent,
    who devise ways to trip my feet.

Help them resist temptation and deliver them from the evil one.

Matthew 6:13 NIV

And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from the evil one.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV

The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Help my children not to fear the troubles they face today. Help them to go through today aware of your presence. May they rest in you as their refuge and strength.

Psalm 46:1-3 NIV

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

Isaiah 41:10 NIV

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalm 91:1-16 NIV

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.” …

You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday. . . .

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways. . . .
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
