Walking with God through the Challenges of Parenting

parenting

The most amazing thing I know of is the gift of walking through life in a relationship with God. Nothing brings more delight and peace than living under the personal care and provision of the Almighty.  Here are some Bible verses about parenting.

As a parent, my need for Him has only grown more evident. Its challenges have required my dependence on Him to deepen. With the school year beginning soon, I encourage you to take a little time to let God speak to you through the passages below as you seek to point your children to Him.

God is our help and peace when we wrestle with the challenges of parenting.

Isaiah 41:13

For I am the Lord your God

    who takes hold of your right hand

and says to you, “Do not fear;

    I will help you.”

Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
    for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Psalm 68:19 NIV

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,

    who daily bears our burdens.

Psalm 95:7 NIV

We are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Psalm 145:18-19 ESV

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
    he also hears their cry and saves them.

Psalm 16:8-9 NIV
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure.

Psalm 121:1-2 NIV

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

God encourages us to come to Him with the concerns we have for our children.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:16 NIV

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Jeremiah 33:3

Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Psalm 55:22 NIV

Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.

Matthew 7:7-11 NIV

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

God guides us when we do not know what to do as parents.

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Psalm 32:8 NIV

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 143:8-10 NIV
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.
Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
    for I hide myself in you.
Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
    lead me on level ground.

Psalm 119:105 NIV Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.
